Mr. Kish

Principal

It is an honor to serve as principal of the Burton Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT)! The 2026–27 school year will be my twenty-sixth year as an educator and my ninth year as principal of this remarkable school. Throughout my career as a teacher, coach, and administrator, I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of students and educators across the Roanoke Valley.

This year will mark a defining chapter in our school’s history. We will begin the year at BCAT and transition during the second semester to the new Roanoke County Career and Technology Center (RCCTC). As we prepare for this exciting move, we will honor the proud legacy of BCAT while embracing the expanded opportunities that RCCTC will provide.

Guided by our theme, “Moving: Onward. Upward. Forward.,” we will continue improving a little each day and carry the very best of who we are into all that we are becoming.

Education is my passion and calling because I believe deeply in its power to change lives and shape a better world. Our responsibility as educators is to challenge, support, and inspire students as they develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and character needed for their futures. In a rapidly changing world, we must prepare them to invent what is necessary, innovate what can be improved, and adapt to whatever comes next.

Although I am proud to be from northeast Ohio and remain a lifelong Cleveland and Ohio State sports fan, I am grateful to call the Roanoke Valley home. My wife and I are raising two young men here. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, playing music, singing, watching sports, reading, and writing.

Assistant Principal

It is a privilege to serve as the Assistant Principal at Burton Center for Arts and Technology. I have been an educator for more than 20 years and am excited to be on this venture with you.

I am originally from West Virginia and have been in Roanoke since 1996. I love to ski, cook, practice yoga, and kayak. I look forward to coming to work every day and supporting each part of the Burton family.
